When an animal is in immediate danger, the first step is to contact local emergency, veterinary or animal protection services. Do not put yourself or the animal in additional danger.
What recovery usually requires
Recovery often includes examination, treatment, nutrition, parasite control, vaccination planning, quarantine when needed, quiet housing and careful observation of behavior.
Some animals recover quickly. Others need weeks or months before they can safely meet new people, live with other animals or move toward adoption.
